Baby Seal Completed by PolyMune Baby Seal Completed by PolyMune
It would seem I have an admirer...who liked baby seal and used it to model their own. I'm all for inspiring, but as I instructed them if you are planning on selling work you used from someone else, credit the individual first and ask for permission prior to the work. It'll save you a lot of headache. I have added a disclaimer on this piece below, didn't think I needed too but alas it seems times are changing  You are free to use this as reference provided you a) Credit me and KEEP those credits and b)you ask prior. I really don't mind, but I'd prefer you ask permission first so I can see it

So baby seal is completed! I took some crit's and applied it to the model to make him better. (The snout is detailed a bit more for stylistic purposes to match the other seals )

He ended up being 690 tri's, with 4 diffuse/spec maps and 3 alpha's. 1 For his body, and three for his eyes to change his expressions. I realized I should've did his mouth similarly but I'll know that for next time.

I rendered him in the Marmoset Toolbag to have it look as close to the toon shader I'm using in Unity for him as possible. I also have multiple positions on this sheet to show off the model and wireframe. The pose you see him in is his default pose.

Baby Seal is fully rigged, textured and animated by me.
He will be used in an upcoming game that I'm hoping to release by the end of this year.

Going to post some 2D promotional work for the game too soon to show how closely to the concept work I made him.

Enjoy Baby Seal! Any crit's I'll apply to the next project, I'm calling this one done before I tweak it forever :giggle:

I guess i thought it went without saying but if you are going to use for reference, message me first. I normally don't mind unless a company owns the copyright, but ask first you'll get better results.

Hello,

I would like thank you because your modelsheet helped me a lot to model my cartoon baby seal :  3dsud.deviantart.com/art/Carto...

I have been pondering how to respond to this for the last couple days.

Thank you for at least crediting me in your comments (though you should also credit me in the comments of where you are selling it as well).

I would recommend in the future if you are going to use someone's work as a reference and plan on selling said work afterwards, it's best to contact them prior to modeling and ask permission first. For all you know this model could've been copyrighted by a big name company and you'd get sued for using it as a ref. for your work.

I do have my work copyrighted so i would ask for the next time, please ask before using. :)

Salut Michelle...

Encore toutes mes excuse ..

Bonne continuation

Eric.

Next time "friend" just apologize ;) it looks less shady of a character then this does. You just burned your bridge with this comment.

So cute! Do you have a video of him showing his rigg?

Not his rig, no. It's a very basic one using simple controllers and nothing really above beginner/novice rigging so I didn't think to make one though I could. If you are interested though, I was thinking about showing how I do that as a video tutorial on a character. I'm thinking of rendering out an animation video of cycling through his animations soon or I may just do a video of in game footage instead lol. I haven't quite decided yet. But thank you!

A video tutorial would be nice. I remember in my rigging class I barely pass. Partly because the class was so fast paced and there was so much to learn.

Well i can help with the basics for sure, but when it comes to advanced stuff i'm still needing to learn a lot more. So yea i'll definitely set one up and if it helps even a little bit, it'll be 100% worth it.

I think with rigging because it's so math/program oriented, slower more visuals is the best. My teacher was quick too and pumped out way too much information in a short span. It's overwhelming, for such a technical portion. At least it was for me anyway.

Definitely improved, love the expressions. Depending on the rendering system, you could put the all the alpha's into one image and change UV's to show different expressions.

I'm using Unity and I think you can do that pretty easily. Figured that'd make it much easier to cycle through the expressions written with scripts to happen at certain instances.
